Hi, it’s Matt Plaskoff from One Week Bath with another edition in our series of short videos on bathroom design, product selection, and bathroom remodeling. Today we’re going to discuss how to incorporate elements into your bathroom design that will help you create the most luxurious spa-like retreat in your own home.

Color – One of the first things you need to consider is COLOR. Colors inspired by nature such as brown, grey, and green, can give your bathroom an organic feel along with a calming effect. If you have a smaller bathroom, you may want to opt for a lighter and more neutral scheme like beige, light gray or pale green, for example. These lighter shades provide a soothing atmosphere, as well as a spacious feel to your smaller bathroom.

Keep it Simple – The second thing is simplicity. Keep the details down to a minimum. A busy bathroom will not feel calm! Heavy patterns paired with multiple surface options will leave you feeling unsettled in a space that is meant for relaxation.

Dimmer Controls – The third element to achieve an inspirational spa-like bathroom is dimmer controls. If you like to enjoy a late-night romantic bath before bed, consider installing recessed lighting or wall sconces that can be put on dimmer controls. With the help of a dimmer, you can soften the lighting and get the spa-like feel when you need for a soothing soak in the tub.

Since installing electrical and dimmers involves complex circuits or electrical wiring issues, I highly recommend leaving this work to a professional electrician. Remember, electrical work can strongly affect your budget. Be aware of your needs and wants when planning out your bathroom redesign, that way you don’t get in over your head.

Soaking Tubs – Free-standing or soaking bathtubs are another way to create a spa-like feeling in your bathroom. If you have the square footage, a free-standing tub makes for a wonderful addition to your remodeled bathroom. The distinctive style of a free-standing bathtub definitely turns heads when friends and family walk into your bathroom. It’s also the perfect opportunity to install a jacuzzi with relaxing jets. If you have a smaller bathroom, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub. Bath manufacturers are offering a wide array of scaled-down alcove tubs that are no longer than five feet, but deep enough to soak in.

Luxury Showerheads – A luxurious rainfall showerhead is a great addition for creating a spa-like shower. This fixture gently showers you with a wide, overhead stream of water. If you decide to go this route, be sure that the rainfall showerhead will be sufficient for everyday showering. Oftentimes, rainfall showerheads do not deliver enough water or pressure to be used for daily showering. Try pairing the soothing elements of a rainfall showerhead with a handheld shower feature for everyday use.
